fiber arts : crochet : pattern guide
The patterns I include on various crochet project pages are always in US crochet terms (not UK). They include a number of abbreviations and conventions that are common in crochet patterns. However, I am listing them here to make things a bit easier to follow/reference.
Some patterns will contain specialized stitches. When that happens, the stitch will be described before the start of the pattern. An abbreviation will be given in that description and then used in the pattern.

Grouping
Patterns use [] to create a group of steps (which will appear between [ and ]. This grouping is generally used to allow for saying "do the following grouped items x number of times". Sometimes a grouping may include a subgroup, in which case {} will be used for the parent group, and [] will be used for the child group(s).
