We (my immediate family unit) are currently traveling aboard the AmTrak Coast Starlight train up the west coast of the United States. The view of the ocean is quite pretty. The rest of the experience has not been the best, but not the worst either. I think it is much more comfortable than taking a plane. However, we will be on it for 36 hours to get to our destination... which may negate some of the niceness. That said, I can move about a lot, there is lots of leg room, the views are nice, there is food readibly available at pretty much any time. Not the worst. Usually we would have just driven, but we have done a lot of driving this year and since there was a station right near where we needed to be this seemed like a fun idea. If it didn't include an overnight I think it would be fantastic. We'll see how sleep goes.
