My family has been trying to fix up some well loved clothing, bags, etc. I tend to do my best stitching these things back together... to mixed results. I recently came accross the Swift Darning Loom and thought it seemed neat. I am not normally one to write about purchases here. I do not tend to make many purchases beyond food and yarn. However, this object seemed a good investment for us. They are made from reclaimed (often found on the street) materials. They are pricey for what they are (you can find cheap plastic versions on etsy/ebay/etc for 10% the cost of this one), but I really loved their ethos. They are hand made in a maker space, recycled materials, and just seem really nice and built to last. Plus: no plastic (even in the shipping).
So I bought one of their "blemished" ones. It is great. Fully workable. I have, so far, fixed up a sock (it didn't go great) and the elbow of a hoodie that had a large hole (it went pretty darn well—see what I did there?)
This is the loom I got:
You can see the hoodie repair in the fiber arts section of this website.
