Notes & Thoughts

This was the first big album I worked on. Some of the songs were recorded in Rory's Mom's house. Over the Ocean, The Processional, and Borderline were recorded there. Where Have All Your Dreams Gone? was recorded in my Mom's living room. All of those were multitracked by one or both of us using Rory's Pro Tools setup and a PC. Go To Sleep was recorded on a small digital 8-track machine that I borrowed from Rory. He filled in some extra parts for the song later and that one was done.

Shortly After Two, Twilight, Can You See Them?, and Dreams Only Go So Far were recorded live. Rory and I, plus our friend Daniel, were trying to start up a mobile recording business and had our gear camped out at the rehearsal space of Romak and the Space Pirates for the summer, as we recorded their first album. Things had not worked out with two or three drummers at that point, and we got their drummer, David, to sit in and record a few tracks with us. So we used the setup we had for the Space Pirates and recorded the aforementioned tracks with David on drums. He became a full member of the band for that time period and played a lot of shows with us.

We had started a record label, The Gaia Project, around this time and released the album via the label. We did a full replicated run of CDs. I'm sure Rory still has some untold number of them in a garage somewhere. That said, we sent our stuff to the guys doing Pandora internet radio at the time. It was still fairly early days for them and we got into the system and people started hearing our tracks a bit. We also sent CDs to college radio stations and got some airplay and various locations, Chicago was a big one I remember. A DJ there liked our stuff a good bit. Twilight, in particular, seemed to be well liked by people.
